Revise a question and revisit response branches

4 min

Explore another response without losing the earlier conversation version.

Written guide · no new video walkthrough

Step by step

  1. Open the conversation

Open Assistant. Use History and Recent Chats to return to an earlier conversation, or send a clear question and wait for its response.

  2. Change and rerun a prompt

Press and hold your own prompt and choose Change & Rerun. Edit the composer, check any linked context, then send. The editor identifies this as rerunning a previous prompt as a response branch.

  3. Compare versions

When more than one version exists, use the arrows beside Version n of n. They are labeled Previous/Next question version or Previous/Next response branch. Wait for generation to finish before switching.

  4. Continue from the intended version

Read the selected version before sending a follow-up; the selected path determines the conversation context. Regenerate reruns a prompt when available without requiring a wording change.

  5. Fork when you want a separate conversation

For an eligible Assistant response, use its action menu and choose Fork Conversation to continue separately from that point. Forking is distinct from switching versions, and already existed in earlier builds.
